Our story

The Equity Charter is an independent, volunteer-led movement.

We’re led by a small group of advocates and supported by a growing community committed to building fairer, more inclusive digital health.

ORIGIN

From an open letter to a movement

In 2024, racist and sexist comments by the owner of a major digital health company made headlines.

It highlighted a deeper issue. Digital health cannot claim to be innovative while tolerating inequity.

We launched an open letter at Rewired Digital Health that year.

More than 1,000 individuals and 60 organisations signed.

But a letter was not enough. So we built the Equity Charter.

A commitment to system-wide change.

BELIEF

Why we focus on race equity

Racism can be built into structures and systems. Even when individuals have good intentions.

Focusing on race equity means actively identifying how racism is designed into systems. And designing it out.

Race equity intersects with class, gender and disability. Addressing it helps us tackle unfairness more broadly.

VISION

What we’re building

We’re working towards a digital health sector where:

  • Products meet the needs of underserved communities

  • Data reflects real populations

  • Procurement promotes fairness

  • Leadership is diverse and accountable

We don’t claim to have all the answers. We’re building better systems together.

Change happens when we act together

Add your name. Stand up. Help reshape digital health.
